Cruise 5531, Day 0 – A Day In Athens

P1060415

We arrived in Athens today after a lengthy but hospitable flight on Lufthansa and an invigorating romp through their Frankfurt terminal to change planes. We stayed at the Hotel Grande Bretagne which provided us with a Signature Travel Network upgrade to a beautiful room with a lovely view and a most welcome marble shower. We felt quite at home here especially since we were welcomed by a very nice assortment of hors d’oeuvres and wine thanks to Julia Shore, the world’s greatest travel consultant. Georgia, the Guest Relations Manager, was very gracious and accompanied us to our room where she had already provided more amenities. Notice the room number in the pictures.  Georgia had selected this special room for us not even knowing that 32 is my favorite number.  Thank you, Georgia!

Jeri had arrived earlier and was out touring already as you can see from her gallery below. We got together later, had dinner at a local, very Greek, bistro. Bought goodies at a gelato shop. Bob bought a block of halvah that lasted him most of the trip. We were treated to a demonstration on our way back to the hotel. Then finished the day with cocktails in the rooftop bar of the Grande Bretagne.
