Cruise 5531, Day 1 – Athens, All Aboard

01-chronicle

There was a beautiful sunrise in Athens this morning and the Grande Bretagne has a very impressive rooftop restaurant where you can see me posing precariously on the ledge with the Acropolis in the background.

We had plenty of time for a walk about the square just outside the hotel before taking a taxi to the Silver Spirit, where check-in was a breeze, and we were told that the port of Ashdod had been deleted from our itinerary due to the current attacks in Jerusalem. As a result, there are only two days in Israel and we had to cancel our private tour scheduled for the third day, and most disappointing there would be no tour to Jerusalem.

Ship’s Reception Desk was very accommodating, and I was able to accomplish all my Signature hosting meetings very quickly. This being our second time aboard the Spirit, we felt at home immediately and were welcomed in our stateroom with a very chocolate piece of anniversary cake. Bob and I celebrate our 20th this year.

Jeri created her own routine this morning and was out and about savoring the Athenian ambiance and culinary delights. Met up with her at the sail-away party on the pool deck which was very festive and entertaining. Great opportunity to meet many of our fellow-travelers.

At dinner we were joined by Gordon and Eleanor, a lovely couple from Scotland. We met with them frequently throughout the voyage.  So sorry that I never had the opportunity to take a picture with Gordon in his kilt on the formal night.  I was impressed.
